The LCR Connect team has been meeting the community across the six local authorities of the City Region. Here’s an update of our work over the last couple of months.
Supporting digital inclusion
VOLA is a consortium of Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Sector service providers operating in Liverpool City Region.
They had received a generous donation of fifty laptops but were struggling to organise the necessary software updates.
LCR Connect has stepped in to support the purchase of new software licences and manage the reconfiguration of the laptops which will then be ready to be put to use.
These laptops will be loaned by Vola to small community organisations and individuals to help them connect to the digital world and make it easier to complete course work and access vital services.
Student engagement
We were delighted to meet with with students from the University of Liverpool to explain what LCR Connect is and why the investment in digital infrastructure is so exciting.
The commuter students were taking part in a Liverpool City Region Combined Authority-backed digital inclusion programme run by Agent Academy. It offers an opportunity to learn about the creative, digital and tech industry, and gain new skills that will help them hit the ground running in the industry, once they graduate.
During the programme, the students identified digital skills gaps and then develop and promote their own training sessions, which they deliver to other University of Liverpool students.
Community hubs
Did you know we’re looking for community organisations that can benefit from the 212km of full fibre, ultrafast network?
We are keen to provide access into the network for communities who do not have access to fast and reliable broadband. We are currently working with community organisations to understand where barriers exist, to then focus on installing easy to access hubs for the community.
For example, this could support school pupils to complete homework, students to access courses or help residents access online services. If you want to contribute to our Community Hub project, please contact us at hello@lcrconnect.com
