LCR Connect’s JV partner ITS has joined the ‘Give an Hour’ scheme run jointly by Growth Platform’s Careers Hub and The Careers & Enterprise Company which is designed to encourage businesses to make a difference to the futures of young people in Liverpool City Region.
The initiative gives students the opportunity to meet with people working across a broad spectrum of industries in many different roles, helping to bring these careers to life and the skills these young people will need as they prepare to be work-ready and successful in the workplace.
The Give an Hour campaign does exactly what it says on the tin, with several ITS staff taking an hour out of their working day to talk with pupils about the skills needed to deliver gigabit capable full fibre networks.
It is really important that businesses like LCR Connect and its JV partners support the Liverpool City Region Careers Hub and engage with our Give an Hour volunteering programme. Employers can inspire and prepare students for the world of work by supporting mock interview sessions, employer talks, and mentoring programmes to build students’ confidence and resilience.
Lesleyann Craig, Enterprise Coordinator, Liverpool City Region Careers Hub at Growth Platform
So far, ITS has held 20 mock interviews with Year 10 pupils at St Chads in Runcorn and St Francis Xavier’s College in Liverpool. The team is really looking forward to being involved in more sessions once the academic year resumes in September.
We have been running Give an Hour for three years, to 134 schools and colleges with more than 150 business volunteers and I would encourage any business to get in touch and support this initiative.
